About

Hi, I'm Kate Merrill and I'm a seasoned E-commerce and Sustainability leader based in San Francisco. I've spent the last 15 years working within corporate retail, e-commerce and direct-to-consumer businesses because I love creating delightful shopping experiences for people. More recently, I've layered in my passion for sustainability and pivoted into sustainable product development and corporate sustainability operations. I'm currently working as an independent e-commerce and sustainability consultant while I prioritize being with my young children.

 

Prior to motherhood, I spent the last few years with Amazon designing and operationalizing sustainable sourcing practices and materials standards for Amazon's Private Brand business, leading the Climate Pledge Friendly product strategy for the Consumables private brand division, and building / launching a sustainable private brand called Amazon Aware. 

I have an MBA from University of Chicago's Booth School of Business and have held roles ranging from Senior Product Manager at Amazon to Chief of Staff for a venture funded apparel company called Monica and Andy. I've managed P&Ls, led promotional events for organizations of 75+ people, designed sourcing and production programs, established and managed vendor and supplier relationships, and driven world class consumer goods development processes from concept through launch.

Beyond professional projects, I enjoy yoga and pilates, cooking with seasonal produce from my local farmer's market, reading, and being silly with 2 year old daughter. I'm currently learning how to make my own cleaning products and reading Lisa Bronner's Soap & Soul. 

I'm deeply passionate about lowering the impact of retail consumption on our ecosystems through responsible sourcing and product development and helping sustainable brands grow their businesses, secure meaningful sustainability certifications, and communicate their sustainability values to customers.
